Dự án cải tạo bờ Bắc kênh Đôi, dự kiến khởi công vào tháng 9/2025, có tổng mức đầu tư hơn 7.400 tỷ đồng. Dự án sẽ thu hồi hơn 5,85ha đất tại các phường 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 và 14 của Quận 8. Tổng cộng có 1.617 hộ dân bị ảnh hưởng, trong đó 1.020 hộ sẽ bị giải tỏa hoàn toàn và 597 hộ bị giải tỏa một phần.
Các hạng mục chính bao gồm xây dựng hơn 4,3km bờ kè dọc kênh, nạo vét lòng kênh để cải thiện dòng chảy và vệ sinh môi trường, mở rộng hai tuyến đường ven kênh là Hoài Thanh và Nguyễn Duy lên 20m, xây dựng tuyến đường Nguyễn Duy nối dài và cầu Hiệp Ân 2.
Dự kiến đến năm 2028, toàn bộ dự án sẽ hoàn thành, góp phần giảm ngập úng, ô nhiễm và mang lại diện mạo mới cho Quận 8.
Dự án cải tạo rạch Văn Thánh có tổng mức đầu tư dự kiến 8.614 tỷ đồng. Dự án sẽ cải tạo tuyến chính rạch Văn Thánh dài 2km (từ đường Võ Oanh đến kênh Nhiêu Lộc - Thị Nghè) và một nhánh rạch dài 275m. Các hạng mục chính bao gồm xây dựng bờ kè bê tông hai bên rạch, nạo vét lòng rạch rộng 25-50m, sâu 3m; xây đường ven rạch rộng 6-20m; xây mới cầu Phú An rộng 17m; nâng cấp, mở rộng đường Ngô Tất Tố lên 25m; mở tuyến đường song hành kết nối vào đường Điện Biên Phủ; đầu tư hệ thống công viên, mảng xanh với diện tích khoảng 4,2ha; xây dựng hệ thống cống thoát nước sinh hoạt, nước mưa và thu gom nước thải.
Tổng diện tích đất phải thu hồi là hơn 7,47ha, với khoảng 1.065 hộ dân bị ảnh hưởng. Trong đó, 772 hộ sẽ bị giải tỏa hoàn toàn. Chi phí bồi thường, hỗ trợ và tái định cư chiếm phần lớn khoảng 6.870 tỷ đồng.
Dự án được chia làm hai giai đoạn, trong đó giai đoạn 2025-2026 sẽ tập trung lập dự án và giải phóng mặt bằng, cần bố trí khoảng 6.887 tỷ đồng; giai đoạn 2026-2030 sẽ triển khai xây dựng và quyết toán với kinh phí khoảng 1.727 tỷ đồng.
Cả hai dự án đều nằm trong kế hoạch tổng thể của TP.HCM nhằm di dời gần 40.000 căn nhà ven kênh rạch từ nay đến năm 2030, với tổng kinh phí ước tính hơn 221.000 tỷ đồng. Sau khi hoàn thành, thành phố dự kiến thu lại hơn 164.000 tỷ đồng từ việc khai thác quỹ đất hai bên kênh rạch để phát triển nhà ở, thương mại và dịch vụ.

Dự án cải tạo môi trường kè phía bờ Bắc kênh Đôi có chiều dài khoảng 4,3km, tổng vốn đầu tư hơn 7.300 tỉ đồng, trong đó chi phí bồi thường hỗ trợ tái định cư là hơn 5.500 tỉ đồng.

Trên địa bàn quận 8 có gần 12.400 căn nhà lụp xụp trên và ven kênh rạch cần được di dời, giải tỏa.
